An upcoming therapy for depression management

brainA brain is an organ which is stimulated by a type of insignificant electric current. This stimulation is, as scientists consider, to be applied to the treatment of depressive states.
The tDCS method or transcranial direct current stimulation, getting low level charge approximately one-400th of which is used for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). electroconvulsive therapy
The similar method is electroshock. During this procedure a patient is given anesthesia and stimulated for several minutes (20 minutes) with electric current. The procedure involves that a patient should stay conscious.
This approach towards treating depression is considered to be useful and effective by most doctors who use it.  They say that the results are lasting and allow using lower dose of antidepressants. Still the method may cause temporary memory loss. While using tDCS does not produce such undesirable side effect.
The low cost and safety of this method make it preferable alternative for people who experience regular depression states and who need other more effective treatments than medications can offer.
The effectiveness of tDCS in comparison with antidepressants (according to the study results conducted in patients with MDD) was detected to be adequate and in some cases higher than achieved with the medicines.
tDCS is a rather new technology for depression management is completely safe, portable, noninvasive and low in cost. It may be applied with the help of certain device (on the battery) which a patient can carry with him. This device is simple in its construction having two electrodes which are placed on the temples. Electrodes give slight stimulation to the brain in regular sessions which can be repeated for several weeks.
The method can be very useful especially in people who cannot use antidepressants, or do not respond to them adequately. Besides, it may be effective in stress managing program together with other methods.
